Lewis Linehan's famous lava map, 'Hell'.

Death 7: God of Death is a two-player, one-keyboard, shoot-em-up platformer game. Players fight to the death with an arsenal of 5 weapons and 5 special powers they can get by praying to the 'God' of the game. Each map has a huge assortment of fun and challenging obstacles. Maps can also be custom-made and a map maker application by Darkfish can be downloaded for those who prefer to make maps with a Graphical User Interface (recommended).

History

Death 7 screenshot

A popular warehouse map by Lewis Linehan.

The Death series has been around since 2000, and Death 7 was thought to be its last. The series gradually evolved starting with a very simple game of grab weapons and kill the opponent. Death 2 was simpler still with 1 gun and an object to upgrade your gun. Death 3 had the same concept but it was written for 3 players to play (one using the joypad). Unfortunately this didn't work, so until Death 4 came out Death 1 was still the best of the series! Death 4 brought back the traditional weapons (Pistol, Machine gun, Rocket Launcher, Shotgun and teleporter) and had no known bugs in it although the game only ran sucessfully on high resolutions! Death 5 sorted that problem out but with the added Flamethrower weapon, the game became riddled with bugs giving the Red player the advantage the whole time. In fact on occasion he was immortal!

Death 6 was until recently the most fun Death of the lot where players had to buy their weapons. They could run up walls and buy items as an advantage too. This Death was fully customisable and had 3 game modes including Deathmatch, Bankrupcy and Millionaire. However the game wasn't really thought out probably, and often players would find themselves in a trap where the higher player on the map would be able to kill the easily. Then along came Death 7: God of Death.

Death 7: God of Death was released to the public on 14th November 2002 on the old Tom Turton Games website. There was only a few maps available in the download and there were many bugs giving different players the advantage. Two days later a patch was released, adding more maps and fixing the known major bugs. Also the ability to add a backdrop to custom made maps was included.

The above description was originally written November 2002 and has been REMASTERED for this website.

I really doubt maps will be in txt format for D8. It's much more likely that there'll be arrays or a mixture of both. Regardless, a map editor will be essential for custom map making.

I loved working on D7. I created a bunch of maps for it, and really enjoyed doing so. I didn't manage to make use of your editor darkfish. But I remember looking at it and thinking. damn I wish I could have had this before I had to manually create the maps in a .txt document. lol.

Hi DarkFish - D8 is still in the pipeline (I'm waiting 'til I finish uni), but I'll certainly keep you in mind for the map editor. Thanks for your interest.

Hooray, my map editor lives on! I'd be happy to help work on an editor for Death 8, but I'm sure you've got it all covered already.
